AMIR Participates in International Conference on Business Management and Innovation, ICBMI 2025

The Executive Director of AMIR, KWIKIRIZA Jackson participated in the International Conference on Business Management and Innovation, (ICBMI2025), organized by University of Lay Adventists of Kigali, UNILAK.

The conference aimed to provide a platform for experts, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to discuss strategies to strengthen cooperative resilience and enhance their impact on socio-economic transformation.

The event brought together more than 500 participants from various African countries and around the globe.

During the conference, the Executive Director highlighted the vital role played by the Government of Rwanda in building the resilience of cooperatives in Rwanda.

He praised the Rwandan government’s efforts, particularly the establishment of Umurenge SACCOs, as a key example of state support for cooperatives. The government provided SACCOs with working spaces, long-term human resources, and continues to play a significant role in their automation and consolidation.

He commended the role played by Umurenge SACCOs in accelerating financial inclusion in Rwanda, which has now reached 96%, according to the 2024 FinScope Survey.

In his speech, he emphasized that in a world marked by rapid change and increasing uncertainty, cooperatives must become more agile, innovative, and inclusive.

He urged participants to focus on four key areas:

➡️ Investing in human capital;

➡️ Embracing digital transformation;

➡️ Ensuring inclusivity of women, youth, and marginalized communities;

➡️ Building systems that are sustainable, equitable, and people-centered.

He reiterated that AMIR will continue to support SACCOs on their journey toward sustainability and resilience: “AMIR remains committed to strengthening the microfinance and cooperative sectors through advocacy, capacity building, innovation, and the promotion of sustainable practices.”

The ICBMI2025 took place at Classic Hotel, Kigali, from October 1st to 2nd. It was organized by UNILAK in partnership with AMIR, RICEM, National Cooperative Confederation of Rwanda, Rwanda Cooperative Agency, and AfriCoop.
